What's in a Name?

A guest writer explores the importance of smart philanthropy and how it furthers LEO's work to outsmart poverty.

Up at Night

"I often think about the verse from the Bible that says, 'to whom much is given, much is required.' How very true this is! And to have a front row seat to the work of philanthropists sharing so generously with others, concerned about real impact for those struggling in poverty—well, that’s quite a gift in and of itself!"

What the Experts Say

As LEO’s body of research has grown, so has our impetus to get the research used. But, what exactly does this look like in practice?

Future Learnings

Approximately 2.7 million children in the United States have a parent who is incarcerated. The Father and Families Support Center was founded in 1997 with a goal to break the cycle of poverty, child neglect and abuse, and welfare dependence by educating and preparing fathers to become responsible parents with the financial stability to support their children materially and the parenting skills to support them emotionally and developmentally.

Forming the Future

Developing the next generation of change-makers and poverty researchers has always been a core part of the LEO model. The undergraduate Notre Dame students who work with us are able to see every step of the process for unleashing effective poverty interventions.
