Outsmarting Poverty Competition

One of the most exciting aspects of this event is our Outsmarting Poverty Competition! Featuring providers focused on using evidence moving forward, there's $25k up for grabs for the overall winner and $5k for the fan favorite. Details below!

Providers selected to participate will give a five minute pitch about their idea for using evidence to a panel of experts, followed by a five-minute Q&A.

Presentations will take place the first day of the event on Thursday, April 13, 2023.

Provider chosen by panelists as having the best pitch will be awarded $25k!

Overall winner will be announced during the two-day event and will have the opportunity to make their winning pitch to all event attendees.

We’ll also have a fan favorite competition online with the winner receiving $5k.


  • Submit a 1-2 minute “elevator pitch” video as a sneak-peek of your eventual five-minute presentation for the panelists. There are limited spots available, so these videos will be used to determine the final eight to 10 providers selected for the competition.   • Be creative! No idea is too small for this competition. Don’t feel limited by how you have used evidence in the past. If you had the rigorous research-backed evidence that firmly proved all the benefits of your program, what would you do with it? How would you use it to change the lives of those in your community, your county, your state, the country? How creative could you get?

Organizations Accepted into the Outsmarting Poverty Competition will receive:

  • Hotel for Thursday, April 13, day of the competition.
  • Free registration for two for the two-day Outsmarting Poverty Event, April 13 to 14, 2023 at the University of Notre Dame (a value of $750).
  • Photography and videography of your presentation that you can use for your own future marketing efforts.
  • Amplification of your brand and your work through LEO’s online presence. 
  • Exposure to Notre Dame’s LEO friends who will be guests in attendance.
