LEO Associate Director Wendy P. Barreno served on a panel on “Evaluation and Measuring Success” at “Expanding Access to Education for People in Prison: The Third Annual Convening of the Second Chance Pell Partners,” a conference hosted by the Vera Institute of Justice on June 7-8, 2018, in Detroit, Michigan. Conference participants included practitioners from a wide range of educational institutions, leaders from Corrections Departments, students who have participated in college-in-prison programs, representatives from the U.S. Department of Education, and a diverse group of other education, corrections, and re-entry practitioners from across the country. As part of the panel, LEO shared information on the unique value and feasibility of rigorous evaluation, the range of potential rigorous research designs, and preparing for rigorous evaluation in the education and criminal justice sectors.
