Nightingale Respite Program

Project Type: Health

Project Stage: In Progress

The Nightingale project was designed by Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Santa Rosa to improve health outcomes and reduce hospital readmissions among local homeless patients. The program provides bed rest and recuperation in a temporary respite center to homeless individuals discharged from hospitals. Eligible patients are placed on a centralized waiting list. The evaluation will compare outcomes for patients who get a bed at Nightingale before they are discharged elsewhere – because a bed happens to become available – to patients who are discharged before they can receive a bed at Nightingale. LEO is working with partners to measure the impact of the Nightingale respite program on outcomes such as hospital readmission rates and medical costs.
